Start Coin Collecting

If you are just getting started in coin collecting or have been collecting for a while and not sure what to do now or where to start I will try to guide you through the in’s and out’s of the hobby based on my experience.I started collecting coins before I was a teenager. They were and still are fascinating to me. When I held an older coin I would stare at it and wonder what great names in history held this coin, what President, outlaw, or gambler had this in their pockets. Did it travel overseas or was lost in a ship wreck and then washed up to shore for someone to find. Wow, what the mind thinks up. You can easily get started in coin collecting. Just look at all the loose change out there. The Lincoln memorial penny is in abundance you can find every year out there from 1959 to present. Of course the older the coin, the harder it will be to find. Most of the Lincoln memorials are worth a penny although some are worth more. The condition of the coin makes a big difference in its value, but we will visit that another time. For now, go to a coin store or shop online and buy a coin folder you are interested in and start filling it up! Whitman, Harris and Dansco are a few. Coin Folders are usually a hard card board or many layers of paper in a book or folder form that is made for each type of coin and will cover a series of coins such as the Lincoln Memorial from 1959 to present. Based on the time the US Mint keeps producing that particular coin there may be more than one folder you would need to buy because there are so many coins like the Lincoln Penny out there.
